In January 2007 the loan period for undergraduate DE students was increased to four weeks with the option of two x four week renewals (unless there are holds on the item). However there is an important change. The Library team will now insist that items borrowed by DE students are returned to the Library before or on the due date. Students in very remote locations with unreliable or infrequent mail services should contact the Library team.

Email courtesy notices are now sent to DE students five days before the due date.

Welcome to the Charles Sturt University Library wiki. A wiki is a website that is fully editable from a web browser by anyone visiting the site. Anyone can add, edit and delete pages, text and hyperlinks right from their web browser. In this way it is distinguishable from other types of social software, such as blogs, which are designed around the post, a timely entry that appears linearly, in reverse chronological order.
This is why the CSU library team has chosen wiki software to create a collaborative resource. The site has been seeded with the contents of our print FAQ's, and the library team would like students and other CSU staff to provide any additional content. Feel free to create your own pages on topics that would interest others. Have you found a great blog, know where to get free software to download podcasts or have some great shortcut you use in Word? Don't keep it to yourself...please share with the rest of us.The library wiki has the potential to become a valuable shared knowledge base.
The team would like to step back and watch the wiki grow, only intervening to repair vandalism, make corrections and contribute new and useful facts.

I am disappointed at the lack of journals that the library holds in my discipline area. I rely on colleagues at other universities or visits to Canberra to obtain the journals I need. The Library needs to buy more health journals.

Bank gives credit card to cat

An Australian bank has issued a credit card to a customer's cat.
The Bank of Queensland gave Messiah the moggy a credit limit of £1,660.
Messiah's owner, Katherine Campbell from Melbourne, applied for the card in her cat's name to test bank security.
Ms Campbell told reporters that the bank requested identification from Messiah but later sent a credit card without receiving any proof of ID.
And she says she was not notified that a secondary credit card attached to her account had been issued.
Ms Campbell said the envelope containing her cat's credit card, the letter inside and the credit card itself were all addressed to Messiah Campbell.
"I just couldn't believe it," she said. "People need to be aware of this and banks need to have better security."
The bank has apologised for the error but stated that people who apply for credit cards must sign to confirm the information provided is true.

Size doesn't matter! On June 4 a black bear wandered into a West Milford, New Jersey, back yard, was confronted by a 15-pound (7-kilogram) tabby cat … and fled up a neighbor's tree. Hissing at the base of the tree, Jack the clawless cat kept the bear at bay for about 15 minutes, then ran him up another tree after an attempted escape. Finally, Jack's owner, Donna Dickey, called the cat inside, and the timorous trespasser disappeared back into the woods.

3 Peaks 3 Weeks

On January 6th 2007, 10 women from all corners of the globe will unite to become the first climbing party to summit three of Africa's highest peaks in less than 3 weeks.

The climbs of Mt Kilimanjaro, Mt Kenya and Mt Meru aim to raise money and awareness for the three peak issues affecting Africa today; environment, education and HIV/AIDS.

The 3 Peaks 3 Weeks Challenge is about dedication, motivation and inspiring other women and men abroad to get involved and contribute to causes where community awareness and efforts can yield powerful self-sustaining results.
